Mezzo at Henley!

Went to Henley with the mezzos. That’s Henley Vets rather than the Royal Regatta – you can’t roll a marble down the footpath at Henley proper, the Veterans version is much more civilized.

Fantastic to be able to train above the start – its hard work keeping up with a Four at full pressure on foot, on the Mezzo its a doddle.

Then followed the races down the path until the bitter end. Bitter indeed as our girls lost by two lengths and our boys lost by one foot having led until the last few strokes.

But Pimms and picnic made up for it. I was driving so the girls took advantage.

Mezzo moments @ the regatta…

Didn’t get a look in all day. Kids and coaches monopolised the mezzos.
They are perfect for coaching because they are more upright than traditional bikes so you can see what the crews are doing and use a megaphone without being unbalanced.
And they are so easy to ride and to jump on and off.

There were several bikes there today but the trads got left by the trailer while the Mezzos were in constant demand.

So much so that the kids doubled up – see pic – they love them.

Matching Mezzo’s

England v Scotland nail biter at Twickenham on Sunday. Decided couldn’t bear the queues at train station or traffic jams. Two Mezzos in the car and piled down to stay at the Lensbury in Teddington for pre-match warm up in the bar Saturday night.
Sunday afternoon and a three mile ride in full rugby regalia to get to the stadium. Husband larger and less fit so on the uphill I had the advantage, however all lost by his greater cunning and ability to negotiate ambling fans in the road and queues of stationary cars. I got trapped curb side while he sailed up the wrong side of the dual carriageway which the police had shut to oncoming traffic. By the time i wiggled through to his side I had well and truly lost.
Thankfully England staggered through to an untidy victory, Grand Slam ambitions still intact.
Rolled back to hotel after watching the England women annihilate their Scottish opponents. Husband, eternally competitive, jumped me 100m from the hotel entrance and crowed about victory all the way home.

Mezzo Moments…race training.

The current Mrs Pettipher (I always feel my position is under review) has stopped me stealing her D9 Curve.

Trouble is, Mezzos are a bit like Sky+. You think life’s fine without until you taste life with… then you’re doomed.

In the past I’ve stolen Sally’s D9 and taken it with me on the train for meetings in Birmingham, London, Oxford and Bristol. I’ve stolen it and popped it in the back of the car for days working in Oxford & Gloucester – it’s surely what park & ride means.

So, with theft permission withdrawn (unreasonably Sally regularly uses hers herself) I had to get one of my own. Hurrah.

I took my new Precious to Oxford, dumped the motor and really enjoyed zipping between my meetings on the D9 throughout the day. And I had no theft worries of my own as it’s a breeze to fold, so I just carried it into offices & cafes with me.

Now with summer on the way I need to clock the miles up & get into trim. Mrs P has already floated the possibility of a Pettiphers’ Mezzo racing challenge.

Mezzo moments – In the City!

What a joy, Mezzo on train, new hi-vis kit on body, London nailed. Has been over a month, well over a month and my how I’ve missed it.
Cursed husband who had borrowed the bike and failed to put lights back on.
Dived into nearest bike shop and grabbed new ones, fitted them whilst on overground from Richmond to Hampstead Heath. One of my loveliest friends lives up a spectacularly steep hill in Hampstead. I had no shame in kicking into the tiniest gear and spinning my way at less than walking pace to her front door. She even let me bring the Mezzo into her cream carpeted hall. Love her.

Mezzo D10 on the Gadget Show…

Last night the Mezzo D10 featured on The Gadget Show as part of a Monopoly Board, commuting challenge around the sites of London.

Presenter Ortis Deley raced the D10 through the city traffic and loved the bikes speed, responsiveness, stability, comfort and handling ability.

“The gear change is really smooth, it’s a really pleasurable ride.”

“This bike gives the feel of a rigid bike without compromising on speed”.

“Loving the D10, smooth and quick with fluid gear changes…”

- Ortis, Presenter.

He easily won this leg of the relay as the D10 excelled at low and high speeds in traffic.
